  • An upright deciduous small tree with colourful heart shaped leaves which emerge dark purple in spring, turn green in summer and mature to maroon in autumn
  • Reliable crops of red or purple nuts in autumn
  • A neat, low maintenance little nut tree ideal for any size of garden, growing to just 3 x 3m and can be pruned smaller
  • Pink catkins appear in spring, attracting early pollinators
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner
  • Grow in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered spot
  • Can be grown as a specimen tree or used for screening or hedging. The attractive branches are commonly used in floristry
  • Cobnuts can be eaten straight from the tree or used in baking and desserts
  • Filberts are round, medium-sized tree nuts that come in a smooth hard wooden shell. Some people believe the name filbert comes from Saint Philbert, whose feast day, August 20, corresponds to their harvest time, while others suggest it comes from an Old German name for “full beard” after the hairlike husk that surrounds them on the tree. Filberts are often confused with hazelnuts and cobnuts, but while there are some minor differences, all three come from the same genus. Filberts tend to be larger than cobnuts but their culinary uses are the same
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming “leggy”, and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE
